karly's pixel effect tutorial

Note: All of my tutorials are done using (the extremely old) Paint Shop Pro 7. They are definitely translatable to newer versions of PSP (you just may have to search as they've moved some of the tools/effects) and most can most likely be done with Photoshop as well.

Start with your picture. I blended three adorable photos of Emma from TRL USA.

Duplicate the base layer, and then go to Effects > Geometric Effects > Pixelate. I know it's somewhere different in PSP X, and this effect is definitely in any image program, you just have to look for it. Set the size to whatever you'd like. I did 17.

So this definitely, er... isn't really working. Set the layer to hard light. You can do whatever you like depending on the effect you're going for. Soft light works too, as well as screen on occasion.

A little better. We don't want Emma's face looking all boxy, though. Use the freehand selection tool and circle around Emma's face, and if you want, her body, focusing on the center, because of this next step -> go to Selections > Modify > Feather. I did 70. Now press delete as many times as you need until it looks good. If you have a blend you can circle everything as kind of one selection, or do each picture seperate if you want the bit between her to be pixel-y as well.

Fin. My result: here.
