karly's fragmented effect tutorial

Note: This tutorial is done (and I believe only possible) in Adobe Photoshop.

Start with your picture. I picked a cute one of Emma at the NYC afterparty.

Duplicate the base layer. Do do this, right click on 'Layer 1' in the layer palette and hit 'Duplicate layer'. Then, go to Filter > Pixelate > Fragment.

There are no options. You will just get this.

Ugly, huh? Use the lassoo tool (you can see the one I selected in my toolbox) and go around Emma's body. It doesn't have to be perfect. Then go to Select > Feather or just hit Control+Alt+D.

Press delete a couple of times until you're satisfied. You will be able to see Emma, but still have some cool... blurry stuff. This is a horrible example, and I did a really bad job. Try to ignore that.

Fin. My result: here.
