Having had some skating practice a few months ago at her big sister Kate’s roller disco Pippa Middleton looked sure-footed when she whizzed into action to help open the Somerset House ice rink for the holiday season.
Emma Watson, though, wasn’t taking any chances when she ventured onto the Christmas attraction. The Harry Potter star, who was enjoying an evening of winter-wonderland fun with her family, took advantage of her young companions’ penguin stabilisers for a little support.
Earlier Emma had presided over the switching on of the lights on the stately home’s Christmas tree. “I’ve been coming here since I was about 13 and I absolutely love it. It’s Christmassy and wonderful,” enthused the actress.
Also adding to the chilly entertainment were Torvill and Dean. The famous skating aces were first onto the ice, performing a routine against the romantic backdrop of the 18th-century courtyard.

Emma Watson skates into the Christmas spirit as ice rink opens but Tania Bryer takes tumble and breaks wrist
Emma Watson got into the Christmas spirit by hitting the ice at Somerset House - but not as hard as former telly favourite Tania Bryer.
While 18-year-old Watson cut a stunning figure as she glided around in the forecourt of the 18th century building, former Sky News weather presenter Bryer took a tumble and was rushed to hospital via ambulance with a fractured wrist.
The celebs had gathered for the switching on of the Tiffany Christmas tree next to the seasonal skating rink in central London.
Emma Watson goes skating for the annual opening of London’s ice rink at Somerset House
Harry Potter star Emma Watson switched the lights on before Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean performed a routine for the audience.
Watson said: ‘I’m thinking about skating, but Torvill and Dean will be a hard act to follow and it depends how brave I’m feeling.’
She clearly had plucked up the courage later, tentatively stepping out and then gliding around with the likes of Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa and actor Robert Lindsay.
Watson turned up to the Tiffany and Co. Skate at Somerset House event trussed up in a ruby scarf, complete with a flowing black coat and disco-style dress.
Tania Bryer with her partner Rod Barker anf her daughters on the Ice
Tania Bryer, with partner Rod Barker and her daughters, had to be taken to hospital after she fell on the ice and fractured her wrist
And she was wearing some very pricey Tiffany and Co. jewellery, including a £61,500 platinum diamond Victoria Bracelet and £23,400 platinum diamond earrings.
The teen actress was probably enjoying taking some time out, having had a busy schedule on her hands of late.
Over the summer she was spotted regularly on the fashion network, attending Paris and London Fashion Weeks to name a few.
She also has her work cut out for her filming the seventh instalment of the final two Harry Potter films.
After completing filming Emma, who plays Hermione Granger in the blockbuster films, says she plans to go to university.

Emma Watson opens Somerset House ice rink
Emma Watson showed off her sporting skills at the opening of the Somerset House ice rink in London last night, out-skating the marie claire team members present and proving she’s as multi-skilled as her Harry Potter character.
Dressed in a leather jacket, cosy scarf and hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of Tiffany jewellery, and with lashings of smokey eye make-up, Emma was joined at the Tiffany & Co-sponsored event by a Tatler-worthy crowd which included Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa, Sam Branson and Isabella Calthorpe, Alex James, Jade Parfitt, Angus Deayton, models Olivia Inge, Portia Freeman and Ben Grimes and fashion designer Paul Smith.
The highlight of the evening wasn’t, however, watching fashion’s finest attempt to stay upright on the rink after one too many glasses of Champagne, but a special one-off performance by Torvill and Dean.
