June 15, 2007: Galleries Temporarily Down
We received an email from our host today letting us know that IHeartWatson has essentially become a victim of it’s own success. The site has been using up far more of our host’s resources then it should be, partly because of many people accessing the large images both in the high-resolution image galleries and in Capscan. While it’s terribly exciting that we’ve grown so much in the five or so months since we’ve started, this also means that at this point we’re either going to have to permanently remove our galleries, or move to a new, rather expensive hosting account that would cost us several hundred dollars monthly.
While we decide what to do, the galleries have temporarily been suspended. We’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience and I hope you understand.
Clarification: This does not mean we’re going to close the site, oh no! We’re just going to need to work out a solution for the gallery, which might involve closing it permanently or switching hosts. We’ve already found a few possible options and will keep you updated!
EDIT: Got a pretty new scan of Emma from the Tatler magazine, thanks to EW!

Wow….That totally sucks. =( I know a few sites who have the same problem….I hope it clears up! Maybe you’ll have to host the subdomains (galleries, sparkly, etc.) on a different host? Well, best of luck to figuring it all out! =)

Don’t you think IHW.net isn’t a sucess of its own things? Because it is a site where more than 4 sites have merged themselves and it has over 5 or 6 domains. It has no fame of it’s own but the total fame of the sites which have merged into it. As a matter of fact this site is not a new site of 5 or 6 months because its parents sites exsisted long long before (more than a year) when it came online or as you have said since you have started. Well, no don’t take me wrong. I do appreciate what you girls have done. But I just think this fact should be cleared up. I hope you girls sort up everything as soon as possible.

and a suggestion. So many sites are killing your bandwidth by hotlinking. Hotlinking protecting will help you to save some bandwidth, I think.

Helen, I do hear what you are saying, but I do not agree with everything. Our sites before we merged did not have nearly as many hits as this site does. This site is definitely more popular. And it whould be, it is so much bigger. We are working out the gallery problem, and also thanks for pointing out the issue with hotlinking. We are trying to fix that, because indeed, some people are very rude and hotlinks.

Hi Lynn! I am glad that you didn’t take me wrong. Of course it has become more popular for its very frquent updates. That’s really good. Well, hot linking protection coding is very easy. If you wish I can help you with it and I have been to your State page. And saw that most of hits that your site has received are from hotlinking or image linking. I think you can get the addresses of the sites that are doing this from the state page of your site and can easily block them. And another suggestion. Close your state page for public view. It is for security reason. It’s not really safe.
